Lagos does December like no other city, and this year Africa Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN) is giving the fashion crowd one more reason to step out. The 2026 edition lands on December 12 and 13, with the theme “AFRICA NOW — THE FUTURE WEARS AFRICA.”

Runway first, party after

Things open on Saturday, December 12, at the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, where designers will present collections that reflect the creativity and ambition of African fashion.

Sunday, December 13, moves the celebration to 9 Fola Osibo, Lekki, for a full fashion festival headlined by a celebrity DJ — and organisers are keeping that name a secret for now. The closing day also includes a meet-and-greet with the AFWN designers, so attendees can connect with the creatives behind the collections beyond the runway.

A full week of build-up

AFWN 2026 actually kicks off on December 7 with a press conference and the opening of the AFWN creative hub at 9 Fola Osibo. The days that follow bring a fashion and music business workshop on December 8, a free Adire training workshop for young people on December 9, and a creator workshop plus influencer collective brunch on December 10. Designers go into fittings on December 11 before showtime.

It is all part of a bigger plan: to connect fashion with business, heritage, emerging talent and digital creativity, while giving designers a platform as African fashion commands more international attention.
